White lights are simple and often produce a natural appearance, while RGB fixtures let you tune red, green and blue channels to change how plants and fish look. Plant success depends more on usable light intensity, spread, photoperiod, nutrients and CO2 balance than on the fixture simply being called RGB.

What white LEDs offer
Modern white LEDs already contain a broad spectrum created by combining LED phosphors and wavelengths. Many planted tanks grow perfectly well under neutral white fixtures.

What RGB adds

Compare spread, waterproofing, mounting, dimming range, timer functions and service support as well as spectrum.
A well-designed white fixture can be a better planted-light choice than a poor RGB fixture.
