What white LEDs offer

Modern white LEDs already contain a broad spectrum created by combining LED phosphors and wavelengths. Many planted tanks grow perfectly well under neutral white fixtures.

They are often simpler to set up because there are fewer channels to balance.

What RGB adds

Independent red, green and blue channels let you alter visual colour rendering. Red plants can look richer and fish colours may appear more vivid.

That is partly a visual effect rather than proof of better plant growth.

Intensity still matters more

A weak RGB fixture will not outperform a properly sized white light simply because it has coloured diodes. Match brightness to plant demand and tank depth.

Control is useful

Dimming and timers are often more valuable than extra colour modes. They let you reduce excess light, create a consistent schedule and adjust slowly as plants mature.
