Aquarium plants can stop growing because light is too weak or too strong, nutrients are limited, root feeders lack substrate nutrition, CO2 availability cannot match the lighting level, or the plant is still adapting after a move. Poor planting depth, unsuitable temperature or repeated disturbance can also stall growth. Start with the basics and look at healthy new leaves rather than expecting instant recovery from old foliage.
Plants grow only as fast as their most limiting resource allows. Adding more of something that is already abundant does not fix the missing piece.

Check whether the plant is actually slow by nature
Anubias and Java fern naturally grow slowly. Compare a plant with its normal growth habit before diagnosing a problem from pace alone.
Match light to plant demand
Too little light limits photosynthesis; too much light can increase demand beyond available carbon and nutrients while encouraging algae. Use a stable schedule and suitable intensity for the species.
Feed the right place
Root feeders can stall in inert substrate even when liquid fertiliser is present. Water-column feeders can struggle if all nutrition is buried as root tabs.
Check planting and recent changes
Buried rhizomes, buried crowns, damaged roots and repeated replanting all slow recovery. Newly moved plants may spend time establishing roots before visible leaf growth accelerates.
Assess new growth over time
Correct one likely issue and observe the next leaves or shoots. Healthy new growth is more useful evidence than expecting old damaged leaves to repair themselves.
